Before I disappear

If I weighed your words

In these hands you place

Against your heart

I am not sure you linger

Anywhere long enough;

Before this shimmer of shore was brushed by tide

I left my kiss upon your back, you half-turned.

I can no longer trust these voices—

Contrapuntal, we interlace them

I miss you, Me too. This is our narrative:

Synchronised, harmonised; who sings the authentic?

Outside rain refines the breeze of March,

Your breath is warm against my cheek

But I cannot see your face—

Je te cherche.

I light a cigarette, I do not inhale

Its ecstasy but desire only to burn out

An empty box—

Don't set my soul afire, but spark it slow to ashes.

For me there is no more

Than your forgetful heart,

Nowhere else to go

With this hunger for ache.

So I dreamed of a way to your words,

These hands misplaced

Against reason

I let myself slip, slide, perish.

But kiss me, kiss me quick;

Before I disappear.
